Space is a specialized architectural monthly which was first published in 1966 and has been at the vanguard of covering the arts and culture scene here in Korea ever since. The magazine features not only architecture, but also diverse cultural and artistic activities across the spectrum of the fine arts. Space offers its readers a wide variety of architectural news throughout Korea, in Asia, and the world in general. 젊은 작가들, 파리에서 날마다 축제*: 메종&오브제 ‘라이징 탤런트 어워즈’ For Young Korean Artists, Paris is a Moveable Feast*: Maison & Objet, ‘Rising Talent Awards’ • 지난 2025년 1월 16일부터 20일까지 프랑스 파리에서 메종&오브제 디자인 박람회가 진행됐다. 메종&오브제는 매해 ‘라이징 탤런트 어워즈’를 통해 특정 국가의 젊은 디자이너와 아티스트들을 조명한다. 프랑스와 초대국의 전문가로 결성된 심사위원들은 스튜디오를 개설한 지 5년 이내, 35세 미만의 젊은 작가들 중 눈에 띄는 신예를 전시 참여 작가로 선정한다. 올해 메종&오브제가 주목한 나라는 한국이다. 오늘날 한국의 젊은 작가들은 자신의 작업을 세계와 공유하고 소통하며 축제와도 같은 나날을 보내고 있다. 그들이 메종&오브제에서 선보인 작업들을 바탕으로 프랑스의 시선으로 읽은 한국 디자인을 살펴보았다. The design fair Maison & Objet was held last January from the 16th to 20th, in Paris, France. Every year, the fair’s ‘Rising Talent Awards’ unveils the up-and-coming talent of a selected country. Noteworthy young artists and designers under 35 years old are invited to showcase their work to a jury of French and guest experts. This year, Korea took centre stage at Maison & Objet. At a time when Korean artists have already been thriving internationally, sharing and communicating their work, SPACE take a look at what was on display in order to gain an insight into French perspectives on Korean design.

제작이 설계를 확장할 때: LLDS When Fabrication Augments Design: LLDS • LLDS(공동대표 데이비드 레겟, 폴 로)는 디지털 제작 기술과 수공예적 감각을 결합하여 건축의 지속가능성을 탐구하는 스튜디오다. 흔히 패시브 하우스가 지루한 외관을 가지게 되는 것과 대조적으로, LLDS가 설계한 노스코트 하우스는 극단적으로 형태적 즐거움을 추구한다. 노스코트 하우스의 강렬한 시각적 이미지를 만들어내는 구성 요소들은 모두 사무소의 자체 기술을 바탕으로 제작 및 시공됐다. 이들에게 제작은 설계의 연장선이며, 프로토타입 실험을 통해 구축해온 노하우를 바탕으로 표준 생산 규격을 벗어난 자유로운 형태를 타협 없이 구현한다. 노스코트 하우스를 중심으로, 건축의 지속가능성과 기술적 혁신에 대한 LLDS의 포부를 들어봤다. LLDS (co-principals, David Leggett, Paul Loh) is a studio that explores sustainable architecture by combining digital fabrication technologies with a handcrafted sensibility. In contrast to the often monotonous appearance of passive houses, Northcote House, designed by LLDS, boldly communicates an expressive form. This striking visual identity was fabricated and constructed in-house, using the studio’s own techniques. For LLDS, fabrication is an extension of design, allowing them to realise unconventional forms beyond standard production specifications without compromise, leveraging expertise gained through experimental prototyping. In this interview, David Leggett and Paul Loh discussed their vision for architectural sustainability and technological innovation, with a focus on Northcote House.
